Productions are paused, suppliers aren’t available and logistics are on hold: on the 13th of March 2022, China locked down Shenzhen city and Jilin province. Due to a rising of Covid-19 cases, all operations in parts of China that are critical for our supply chain are brought to a standstill. Therefore, we would like to inform you about what this could possibly mean for your business.
How China’s lockdown could affect your business
The constraint of operations makes it difficult to get the goods you need, causing shortages and scarcity. Unfortunately, this means that some products will be unavailable and backorders will be delayed.
Duration of the lockdown’s consequences and effects
Scarcity could last for an unknown amount of time, depending on how long the lockdown will last exactly. According to China’s government, the lockdown is planned to last for at least seven days, but it’s not unlikely that it will be extended for a couple more days or even weeks.
Other than the length of the lockdown, the shortage duration also depends on the amount of time it will take to get all operations started again. Whenever the lockdown gets lifted, the demand will increase and goods will need time to get back in the market. Eventually, these impacts could cause an increase of shipping costs and pricing.
