iPad Display Issues with Stylus: Why Copy Pens Cause Touch Problems

iPad Display Issues with Stylus: Why Copy Pens Cause Touch Problems

Lately, we’ve been seeing more and more cases where customers report that the iPad display is “not responding properly” when using a pen. At first glance, it looks like a touch issue, but after testing quite a few of these, the pattern is pretty clear. In most cases, the display is actually fine. The difference comes down to the type of pen being used. When we test with an original Apple Pencil, everything behaves as expected. You can write normally, rest your hand on the screen, and the input stays stable. No jumps, no interruptions. But when we switch to a copy pen, things change. If you only use the tip, it often works okay. The moment you rest your hand on the screen while writing, you start seeing issues. Lines break, touch becomes inconsistent, or the screen seems unresponsive. That’s usually the moment customers think the display is defective. From a repair perspective, this is where things go wrong if you’re not careful with testing. If you only test quickly with a pen—especially without resting your hand—you might miss it. If you don’t ask what pen the customer is using, you might approve an RMA that shouldn’t be one. The easiest way to avoid this is to go back to basics when testing: First, use your fingers and check the full screen If touch works fine everywhere, that already tells you a lot Then test with an original Apple Pencil (your reference) Only after that, test with a third-party pen and simulate real usage (including resting your hand) That last part is important because that’s exactly where copy pens tend to fail. It’s not the screen struggling—it’s the pen not handling palm rejection properly. We’ve also found that asking the customer one simple question upfront saves a lot of time: “Are you using an original Apple Pencil?” In many cases, that alone points you in the right direction. If there’s still doubt, ask for a short video from the customer. You can usually see immediately whether it’s a display issue or just how the pen behaves when the hand is on the screen. Key takeaway If the display works fine with touch and behaves correctly with an original pen, then it’s not a screen problem. What looks like a defect is often just the limitation of a copy pen. Catching this early means: Fewer unnecessary returns Less back-and-forth with customers A smoother repair process overall

Building a sustainable future: EU agrees on Type-C universal charging port

A bit over a year ago, we wrote a blog about the EU’s plans to make the USB Type-C the universal charging port for all devices. These plans have recently been made concrete. Let us tell you all about the new regulations! The goal of the EU’s new charger regulations The central focus of the EU's plans revolves around one crucial objective: all devices, regardless of their manufacturer, will adopt USB Type-C as the universal charging port. The European Commission has recognized the inconvenience and environmental impact caused by the wide variety of chargers in the market. A common charging solution embraces a future where charging our devices is simpler and more sustainable. Introducing the universal charging regulation The Universal Charging Regulation, specified in Directive (EU) 2022/2380EN, sets requirements for the 'common charging' solution. Starting in 2024, all handheld devices such as mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, portable speakers, videogame consoles, e-readers, earbuds, keyboards, mice, and portable navigation systems must comply with these requirements. Laptops will also be included by 2026. A key aspect of this regulation is the adoption of a standardized charging port, USB-C. With USB-C, consumers can conveniently charge their devices using any USB-C charger, regardless of the brand, eliminating the need for multiple chargers. How consumers will benefit from the regulations By implementing a common charger, consumers can enjoy several advantages. Firstly, it improves convenience and saves money as you will no longer have to search for a specific charger for each device. Secondly, it reduces the environmental footprint associated with charger production and disposal. Lastly, it ensures that innovation continues to thrive alongside standardization.  Impacts of the New Standard on Your Business  The new standard will have implications for both device manufacturers and the repair industry. Here's what you need to know: Reduced Stock Requirements: With just one type of cable needed, less inventory space will be required for retailers and repair shops. Increased Focus on USB-C: The standardization on USB-C creates opportunities for technical innovation and specialization. Simplified Repairs: Technicians will find it easier to repair charging ports as they only need to be familiar with USB-C. By embracing the new standard, businesses can benefit from streamlined stock management, innovation potential, and simplified repairs. 4Phones embraces the new regulations mandating USB Type-C as the universal charging port, promoting circularity and sustainability. This standardized solution brings convenience, cost savings, and environmental benefits for consumers while creating business opportunities and simplified repairs.

Battery codes and chip differences - APN & chips updates!

We have important updates to share with you regarding battery codes (APN) and the differences between ZY and TI Chips. Here's what you need to know:   Battery Codes (APN) and SKU Unification Previously, you may have seen different codes for our iPhone batteries. We have now unified them into one SKU. So, in a single order, you might receive different codes. Rest assured, the batteries' performance remains the same, ensuring consistent quality.   Understanding ZY and TI Chips  ZY Chip: The ZY Chip is a non-original chip that does not display battery capacity in your phone's settings since it cannot be programmed with the original battery's serial number. TI Chip: The TI Chip is the original chip used with Apple batteries. It supports programming with the original battery's serial number, allowing accurate tracking and displaying battery capacity. These chips offer enhanced functionality and compatibility. Please note: Even though a TI chip is an original chip, be aware that the pop-up “non-original part” will still appear. If this occurs, read our blog about how to remove this pop-up. CHECK OUT ALL OUR IPHONE BATTERIES We want to provide you with clear information to help you make informed decisions. • EU demands replaceable batteries: an important step towards reducing e-waste

EU demands replaceable batteries: an important step towards reducing e-waste

Great news for the Right-to-Repair! The European Parliament has approved a new battery regulation to further reduce waste, particularly e-waste, in Europe. This is a big step towards making electronics more sustainable, although there are still challenges to face, especially when it comes to making repairs affordable.   The new battery regulation focuses on making it easier to remove and replace batteries, so people can use their devices for longer. Cristina Ganapini, who coordinates the Right to Repair Europe campaign, is happy about this important achievement: "This is a big win for the right to repair. From now on, all new portable devices and light transportation devices must have replaceable batteries. In many cases, users will be able to replace the batteries themselves. Manufacturers will also have to provide spare batteries for five years after they release the last unit of a model. The regulation says that spare batteries should be sold at a fair price, and we'll keep an eye on manufacturers to make sure they follow these rules."   The regulation also stops unfair practices. Ugo Vallauri, co-director of the Restart Project, highlighted how important this is: "We're happy that manufacturers can't force people to use specific spare parts for repairs anymore. This is something we've been fighting for with the Right to Repair campaign. We want this level of fairness for all spare parts."    Even though the battery regulation is a big step forward, there's still work to be done. Thomas Opsomer, Policy Engineer for iFixit, says we need to watch out for problems. "Some people might try to make exceptions for devices used in wet conditions. They might say those devices don't need easy-to-change batteries. This could mean things like electric toothbrushes and small electronics won't have batteries that users can replace. But these exceptions are not fair because there are already many products with replaceable batteries that work in wet conditions, like underwater flashlights."   Approving the new battery regulation is a big deal for Europe's journey towards sustainability and reducing e-waste. It's a positive development for consumers' rights to repair. However, more efforts are needed to make sure repairs are affordable for everyone and that manufacturers follow the rules about removable and available batteries. If we work together, we can create a more sustainable future for electronics. As supporters of the Right-to-Repair movement, we at 4Phones are happy about this sustainable and circular development!

Here are the key topics we discussed:   The key to managing a successful store  Repar and Go stands out as one of the most popular repair shops in the Metz area, and their success can be attributed to their exceptional in-store service. Selcuk emphasized the importance of experienced technicians who instill confidence in customers. A notable aspect that sets his store apart is the transparency offered to customers, allowing them to witness their device being repaired in real time. By engaging customers in conversation and focusing on their needs, Selcuk ensures their satisfaction and trust in his capable hands. The positive reviews greatly impact the decision-making process for potential clients who often search online before physically visiting the store. The abundance of positive reviews boosts the store's visibility on Google, leading to higher rankings in search results.   Effective stock management and meeting customer expectations   Selcuk firmly believes that maintaining the repair store’s inventory of commonly required repair parts is essential. He ensures he has an ample supply of screens and batteries for popular Samsung and iPhone models, tailored to the specific needs of the local market. By consistently stocking at least one original (pulled or refurbished) and one compatible spare part for the most common models, Selcuk provides his customers with efficient and on-site express repairs, a service greatly appreciated in the Metz region. However, the need of stocking on specific models and qualities may vary depending on each market.    The significance of choosing a reliable supplier Selcuk emphasized the importance of establishing strong relationships with a supplier. Selcuk appreciates 4Phones for our complete stock, punctual deliveries, and most importantly, the ease of communication we provide.
